Today I wanted to talk about a video I came across again for the first time in a while. I can remember originally watching it a few years ago.
At that time I was certainly impressed with what I saw. As a teenager though it didn’t hit home as much as it did now.
Arnold grew up in Austria only to move to the United States as a young man and conquer everything he set his eyes on. From bodybuilder to movie star to governor of California.
These are Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 Rules of Success that you can apply to your life.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 Rules of Success
1 Trust yourself
Trusting yourself is a large part of success. I have heard time and time again that the biggest regrets in life come when you don’t listen to your ‘gut’.
When something feels right and you have the edge then there is no reason why you should hesitate. There will always be 101 reasons why you shouldn’t do something.
If it lights a fire inside of you then that should overpower the rest.
Without a doubt, there will be people who will try to discourage you from going after what you want. Even those who say they have your best interest at heart may go against you.
It is important to remember that these people do not see what you may see. Your parents may value your safety and security over what you will truly make you happy.
This doesn’t make them evil or anything. They are just more conservative and prefer less risk.
2 Break some rules
Rules were made to be broken. I know Arnold makes the distinction between law and rules but did you know the average US citizen breaks 3 laws a day?
There are so many that it’s impossible to know all of them.
Anyone who made great strides in any field broke at least one rule. It’s accepted that you will probably be called crazy or deluded.
It is only once the dust has settled that they eat their words.
Rules are made to give general guidelines to those who need it. Following these rules will lead you to where everyone else has already been.
If you want to go where no one has went before then you need to step outside these boundaries and break the rules.
Once you have done so you can create your own rules to follow. Those too can be broken. It can be daunting to go it alone but the price you pay for not doing so is a life of “what if’s”.
With constant progression and innovation, the rule book will be rewritten continuously. If you get far enough people may even start writing the rules based off, you.
Just remember to tell them it’s not a complete work when they do.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 rules of success utilizes the knowledge of rules to empower.
3 Don’t be afraid to fail
Going through life afraid of failure is like walking a tightrope. Every waking minute you will be scared to make one wrong move.
This is the case because you view failure as the threat of public humiliation. You are afraid of what others will say or think of you should you show any signs of energy or life.
They have convinced you and so many others to sit on the sideline as a spectator and silently judge the rest. It is the “safe option” but there is no struggle or challenge.
Opting out of life to avoid failure is infinitely worse than failure itself.
Life is not like walking a tightrope where any wrong move can lead to death. Failing is just the death of the ego.
It is a requirement for growth. When you fail, you are learning and when you are learning you are not the same person as before.
Falling and picking yourself back up again strengthens your determination. Each scar is a sign of adventure and that is much more than many can say.
Do you know what another cool thing about scars is? They heal.
4 Ignore the naysayers
The naysayers have a strange way of creeping into our psyche and infecting us with negativity. Think of it like a leak in a boat. As each drop of negativity seeps into the boat the load increases.
Then one day it all becomes too much and the boat sinks to the bottom of the ocean, never to be heard or seen from again. This is the true threat of surrounding yourself with naysayers.
If you get told repeatedly that you can’t do something, then chances are you will begin to believe it.
Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t you’re right”.
Mindset is a powerful tool when used correctly but it can also have devastating consequences if you lose control of it. If you fail to ignore the naysayers, then you risk drowning in negativity.
5 Work like hell
Some people win big at the “genetic lottery” and have amazing gifts. These did not necessarily require work to attain.
The person with Hollywood facial features or perfect muscle insertion didn’t earn these traits. The person with an IQ of 145 would have got it regardless. If they avoided getting completely malnourished growing up that is.
Granted success still isn’t guaranteed with these things at all but it does make it easier. Some are born in unimaginable wealth and others in dire poverty.
The circumstances we are handed are out of our control. How we choose to deal with them after that is up to us.
Hard work is the great equalizer. It doesn’t matter what you may be lacking, I can almost assure you it can be improved through hard work.
Some only consider hard work to be mining for gold in Alaska or deep sea fishing in the Atlantic. While anything seems like a piece of cake compared to this, the word has a different meaning in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 rules of success
I believe hard work in this context to be working when you don’t feel like working. When you work continuously even when everyone in the office has went home.
It is the kind of work that you get up at the crack of dawn for. That’s hard work in this context.
6 Give something back
Gifts should be both given and received. No one should ever be forced to give something back but when the circumstances are right I imagine most do.
The voluntary aspect is where the true good comes from.
Maybe there was something you wish was around when you were growing up. It could be the perfect opportunity to leave your mark and encourage the next generation.
The ability to leave a positive mark on the world is exciting indeed.
Why You Must Apply Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 Rules of Success
There is only one Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is a unique person who will never be replicated again.
The funny thing is so are you. I’m not saying you are going to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger as that would be unfair.
It would be easy to feel small in comparison to the heights that Arnold reached. Comparing yourself to others is a fast track to becoming depressed.
I could easily take the view of “Arnold was Mr Olympia at 20 years old and I’m not, therefore I’m nothing.” I won’ t do that, why would I?
Instead I greatly admire all that he achieved and utilize it to drive me forward in life. Reading about the accomplishments of others inspires me.
There is indeed vast potential in all of us. We only need to unlock it.
For some it is harder than others because of the past they have lived whether that be by their own errors or the errors of others growing up.
Today is a new day. Take Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 6 rules of success & apply them to your life.
Arnold unlocked his, will you?
