Inside, they wish they could be like you but they just don’t have the guts.

They secretly want you to fail.

So you can come back to the couch and continue watching football with them.

This will mean the two of you can feel comfortable together, in your own worthlessness.

Of course there are true friends who want you to get what you want in life.

They should be celebrated.

This post isn’t about them though.

This means you need people in your life who are completely comfortable with greatness.

But, they must know where they want to be in the future and how to get there.

It takes courage to know that you are on the right path.

Greatness can mean a lot of things to different people. It could be creating a successful family, business, or finally getting in shape.

It could be all three.

We only have so much energy to give each and every day.

The more you spend it on interacting with time wasters, the less energy that you get to spend on productive matters.

This will damage every facet of your life.

Having fake friends around you is like carrying a monkey on your back with a vice like grip.

Every day will be more difficult than it needs to be.

You’re suffering when you’re forced to interact with people who don’t respect you or the mission you are on.

I often hear people complain about their friends.

They’ll continually point the finger at them without ever once turning it on the person who is doing the pointing, themselves.

Who you choose to associate with is a direct reflection of yourself.

If you hang around with losers then more than likely, you yourself are a loser too.

It doesn’t mean you can’t become something greater in the future though.

That may begin with cutting out fake friends.

Stay loyal to your true friends

You shouldn’t leave a loyal friend out to dry when he is going through a rough patch.

You should be there for him when he needs it the most.

As a man you should try to lift him up like he would do to you.

But, when after the dust has settled, he continues to feel sorry for himself and refuses to get the help he needs?

At some point you need to move on.

If you are continually spending your time and efforts trying to help someone, there comes a point where you have to draw the line.

When you begin to suffer as a result, an ultimatum may have to be made.

Show him what is possible with some determination.


Not everyone you keep company with has to be an Olympic record holder.

Everyone has different ambitions in life.

This is absolutely fine.


But don’t complain about the people in your life and then continue to spend time with them.

You don’t need extra distractions.

If the friendship is one where you are always giving while the other person takes, then you need to get out.

Friendships should be balanced.

This means that both parties should be benefiting from the interactions.

Don’t wake up in 10 years and realise that you haven’t done anything.

Fake friends can do that to you, if you let them.

The chains may have to be taken off sooner rather than later.

How to Live Life Like a Grizzly Bear and Destroy Your Doubts

The Grizzly bear is an animal often overlooked by people who instead take inspiration from more exotic beasts.

There is no reason why though.

Maybe they  still can’t get the cute and cuddly teddy bear connotation out of their head.

Grizzly bears can take hibernation for 5-7 months of the year.

That’s a lot of down time, but it’s not just for any reason.

This  process is necessary for the Grizzly’s survival. If it were to ignore the inclement weather, the Grizzly would surely die.

It would never stay alive long enough to see the birth of Spring.

To become what it is destined to be, the Grizzly must go through this journey every year.

In preparation, this bear can gain up to 400lb to ensure it lives on through the Winter.

You too must go through a journey of sorts.

Unless you want to continue doing what everyone else is doing and keep talking the same shit to the same people.

You will keep wondering when life is going to change.

It isn’t going to change, unless you decide to commit to making it change.

What awaits for you on the other side is the summation of greatness.

The Grizzly steps up it’s hunting game because it knows that it must.

It dedicates more hours in search of food for it’s self because it knows that death is imminent otherwise.

The Grizzly must dig a den to stay in over hibernation.

All of this must be completed before Winter.

You too must step up your will to act or else you will sink.

 Every great idea that lies within you will sink as well.

To prevent emotion you must stop yourself from inaction.

To prevent inertia you must act and then keep at it because an object in motion will tend to stay in motion.

The longer you wait to act, the harder it will be to begin, but not impossible.

Unless there is some medical reason keeping you on the couch then you have no reason being there. 

You either act, or you face extinction, extinction from what you could of been.

The placard with your name engraved on it is never erected, your existence remains insignificant as you failed to give it any.

No one will ever see the greatness inside of you.

Somebody else took it from you because they wanted it more, they declared it theirs.

The Grizzly decides that it is worth it because nature takes no prisoners.

It doesn’t care if you had a rough day and that you “just aren’t feeling it”.

When you give yourself the option to lose that is when you are open for attack and ultimately to failure.

When you take a hibernation away from distractions it is an investment in the future that not everyone is prepared to make.

It takes discipline to sacrifice the pleasures of the present for something more worthwhile in the future.

The problem is what we currently have in front of us is tangible compared to our true desires which may seem out of reach to some.

Sacrifice then, must come with a self belief in your quest. 

A great amount of discipline is necessary to enable this.

You must practice self-mastery every day in order to build your den in life.

The Grizzly does not venture into his preparation without full commitment and neither should you.

As the potential victor, you must begin fighting back  before it is too late.

Killer instincts are a necessity for the Grizzly as it seeks to assert it’s dominance over the woodlands.

It must remain calm even when all is changing around him.

You too must do the same in the face of adversity.

What is the best diet for fat loss?

Everyone has a favourite; Atkins, Paleo, low carb-high fat, high carb- low fat, intermittent fasting, IIFYM.

The list goes on and on…

‘Gurus’ will spout the magic of their sacred diet they swear by over all others.

One will preach eating one large meal a day and the other eating 6 small meals a day.

The problem is that they spout it for all the wrong reasons.

They preach about their ” secret fat burning foods” and ” window times for fat loss” with no evidence to back it up.

They claim that their manipulation of hormones like insulin are the reason behind their fat loss.

And they tell you all will be revealed if you would just purchase their meal plan!

I’m tired of this nonsense and the blatant misleading of people.

Their diet may be successful but these reasons are not the cause of it.

The reality is that all successful fat loss diets have one thing in common.

Are you ready?

The person must be in a calorie deficit for an extended period of time.

There I said it.

Yep, you heard me right.

It’s calories in vs calories out.

Not consuming no carbs after 6pm or anything else absurd.

If your mind is blown well then buckle up.

Being in a calorie deficit means that you have to consume less calories than you expend.

Simple right?

Whatever way you choose to get into such a deficit is up to you however.

Let’s take a look at the Steak and Eggs diet which is a form of a ketogenic  diet.

This is a diet extremely low in carbs and high in protein and fat.

That’s not why its effective though.

The primary reason why it works is because it limits your food choices dramatically. 

Eating becomes a whole lot less attractive when you can no longer eat cereal, ice cream and french fries.

The effect will be to stunt your appetite if you can maintain it.

The fact that you’re only allowed to eat two meals during the day has a great effect on controlling eating habits too.

How many calories can you eat when you restrict yourself to two sittings compared to three or four?

No where near as much.

The effect of limiting your meals and food choice greatly outweighs any other factor like a small maybe a small change in metabolic effect.

If you’re losing weight on this diet that’s great though!

Don’t stop.

I can guarantee however, if you count up all the calories you’re eating it will be less than what you were eating before you began.

It’s not because the combination of steak and eggs is somehow ‘magic’.

Do you need to do extra exercise?

The short answer is no!

You don’t need to go on a 10 mile run every day if that’s what you’re thinking.

So don’t worry.

Consuming less calories is much more efficient than exercise for weight loss.

You can go for an extra hour walk or you can not eat that chocolate bar.

Although you should still be exercising and lifting weights for health and well being.

Abs were made in the kitchen not in the gym.

That doesn’t mean you need to limit yourself to chicken, broccoli and rice however.

You need to find a diet that allows you to be in a calorie deficit in a way that works for you.

This means that you need to find a diet you can maintain consistency with.

People can get lean off eating junk food every day.

If you don’t believe me just read about the man who lost 56 pounds on the Mcdonald’s diet!

I would not advise this as you will destroy your health in the process and you will be constantly hungry.

But it serves as a good example that calorie deficit is king for fat loss.

Those vitamins and minerals are important too bro.

Here is a little bit of knowledge for you about death.

You’re going to die.

Yes you are, we all are one day.

It may be many years from now but your time is ticking.  This may come as a shock to you considering the lifestyle that many lead.

Every day you choose to waste is another day you’re never going to get back.

Every day that hooded figure of death with scythe in hand creeps closer and closer to you.

Now that you know that your time here on this plane of existence is limited what are you going to do about it?

Once you appreciate that you are going to die it is a truly liberating experience.  The remaining apathy that I had left inside of me vanished. What seemed like valid excuses to me before, now seemed laughable. Death is inevitable but what you do until then is entirely up to you.

You can choose to live a sheltered life and pretend like everything is fine. But that call is coming some day, that is a guarantee.

The live fast die young-YOLO lifestyle glamorised by Hollywood and friends is self destructive crap. A life full of partying, drugs, sleeping in, a crappy diet and no self knowledge will lead to an unfulfilled life with no substance.

And what a waste that would be. . The chances of you being born were 400 trillion to one. That means that you should be grateful for every extra day that you get to spend living. We’ve seen generations of kids lives thrown to the kerb by telling them that nothing matters except their immediate gratification. This kind of relativism is an extremely dangerous drug to the right person.

Go To A Retirement Home

Go to a retirement home, talk to a man and ask him about his regrets in life. Really listen to him and understand the reasoning behind it. You will begin to see that it is here that he has come to some of these realisations. It is here where he has come to rest and contemplate his life. When you see that regret in a mans eyes you will know it. He is close to deaths door and there is nothing he can do about it.

The most difficult aspect is that he can’t do anything about it. He can’t wake up tomorrow and try again to chase his dreams and build something bigger than himself. He must live with his decisions, and that in itself is a part of life. You should be leaving that retirement home with fire in your eyes.

He can’t tell that person how he really felt. He can’t start up that business with the idea he always thought about. He can’t move to that location he always talked about. This man can’t do these things because the opportunities have passed him by. They are gone.

But you are not in this situation yet. You still have a finite amount of time to change your atmospheric course so that you don’t crash land, but gracefully carry on towards the stars. You still still have time to change your course of history. How do you want to be remembered?

Don’t Get Hung Up On the Past

Whatever has happened has happened, you cannot change it. You should certainly learn from your past errors so that you don’t make the same mistake again. But living life constantly thinking about your previous decisions will be at the detriment of your current and future self.

Living life in the past will undoubtedly lead to regrets on your death bed. Learn to accept the past and appreciate the freedom to start anew.

This Is Your Battle

Whatever your current situation is it can improve. It will take the will of yourself and yourself alone to change it. Realise this – no one is coming to save you. This is your battle and  ultimately the sword must be taken up by you and you alone.

Begin by building your human capital and wealth. Not just in monetary terms but in life experiences and skills too. Take a calculated chance on something to build your confidence and courage up. If you have an opportunity to travel and see the world then do. But realise that there is more to life than getting wasted in Thailand.

Wake up every morning thankful that you have another day to improve yourself and your situation.  Build strong relationships with people you admire and share interests in. Leave the toxic ones that only serve to drain your of your passion for life.

Do not fear death but fear a life unlived.

Work is a word that strikes fear into the heart of many.

We are continually sold false promises of get rich quick schemes which only help to keep us locked in servitude that much longer. Every time you fall for such a scheme, you prolong and enhance the inertia to get started on something worthwhile. Just like everyone else, you are so desensitised to the lies and deceit being peddled your way that you no longer even recognise it.

The Reality Is Different From What Everyone Believes

This loser mindset keeps people poor and unhappy. The idea that you will one day wake up with all your problems solved is a dream. A dream that only happens in awful Hollywood movies and bedtime stories lazy people tell themselves.

The reality is that if you want something then you’re going to need to put in the work. If you go into something half halfheartedly then you will get half hearted results. If that’s fine with you then you’re in the wrong place.

That youtuber you just heard of? He’s been grinding day after day  putting out quality content for 10 years straight. You have to be willing to be a nobody, living in obscurity for a long time.

The mere concept of putting in effort without immediate gratification turns off 99% of people out there. Everyone wants to see immediate results in the bank account, mirror or with their relationships. You need to be willing to delay gratification for a long time, like a brown bear who is stockpiling food for hibernation in the winter.

5 minute ab routine and curl routines won’t cut it. They only  serve to make you comfortable with the little amount of effort you’re willing to put in.

Embrace Hard Work

If you have never been exposed to hard work before I can imagine how alien it may be. Our generation has been spoon fed and suffer from lack of male role models growing up. But if you choose to go back to you’re usual destructive habits after reading this then you are a part of the problem. You need to assume responsibility for your life choices.

The power of hard work cannot be underestimated. Many of the times it is the person who has worked at it for longer and with more intensity that will win out. Intelligence and natural ability are massive factors in life but sometimes rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in is what’s needed. You should focus on what you can change, rather than what you can’t.

Hard work doesn’t mean slaving away doing something unproductive. It means working continuously until you find success, what many people are unwilling to do.

Are you willing to spend an hour exercising to improve your physical strength and fitness?

Will you make proactive steps towards your aspirations?

These are questions that you should already know the answer to if you’re reading this.

The average American watches 4.3 hours of TV a day, sickening. The vast majority of which will be spent watching the news or keeping up with some D-list celebrity.

While you continue to watch someones reality TV show your own life is crumbling around you.

The Essentials

You  should aim to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. This will give structure to your day and ensure you have the best chance of being refreshed.

There needs to be a complete separation of work and play.

This means that you don’t pretend to do work while scrolling Facebook. This destructive habit will lead to endless hours of desk time with zero accomplishment.

Stop watching Netflix every night might also be a good start too.

How To Study Effectively Right Now Today

Many of our aspirations in life require that you pass a test before you can get there. Whether you want to be a Doctor, Lawyer or want to start driving; they all require that you pass formal examinations beforehand. And passing exams requires study.

As a medical student, if there is one thing I know it’s how to study effectively.

Studying is as easy or as difficult as you like it just depends on your attitude. No one likes studying (at least I think they don’t) but if you need to do it here are some helpful tips.

Start Early

The time required for you to study is  completely relative depending on your own circumstances.

A large number of factors are dependent here. The major factor is the difference between your current knowledge and understanding of the subject and the level of knowledge and understanding that you need come test time. Find out what this difference is by doing practice exams or from your experience and you now have a rough estimation for how long it will take you to study.

I like to give myself plenty of time so I can maintain the rest of my lifestyle such as leisure reading, martial arts, gym and getting a good nights sleep.

Always start earlier than you think you will need. This has happened me many of times. You need to have an insurance policy to take account for sick days or if you have forgotten about other important events closer to test time.

By giving yourself a head start you will be ensuring that you have room to manoeuvre if any last minute changes are needed.

Figure Out Your Best Study Technique

This comes from experience but you can aid your quest by trying out different methods to see what style fits you best. Starting early will allow you time to experiment with this.

The way you study depends on what you are studying for. Some subjects like history require more rote learning to memorise facts and figures. Other subjects like maths may require a greater understanding of methods and calculations for problem solving.

There are tons of different ways to study and there are many extravagant methods in there if you are willing to try. Some people swear by spider diagrams others by recording their voice/ lecture and listening back to it.

Many people spend endless hours making fancy colour coordinated notes. I personally find this too be a lot of effort without much more benefit. I prefer to read and reread my lectures but that is what suits me best.

You can mix and match to keep things interesting but if that might make matters worse then just stick to one style.

Whatever your preferred technique is find it and utilise it for all its worth.

Study Smart 

There is a difference between your subject and what will be on your test. You can spend endless hours studying  but if you’re not studying what is relevant to the exam then you are wasting your time. Find out what specific parts of your course will be tested and in what way.

Try to get as much information out of your examiner as possible. You want be given your best possible chance at succeeding.

Look at the most recent exams and ask people who have done it before or are repeating on their experience and advice.

But be careful as the exam format and content may have changed. This is common as schools/ examining boards are always trying to prevent too much past content being available on a specific subject. There are only so many ways that you can ask a question on photosynthesis.

Use Other Resources

Go online and see what is available in your area of study.

This is no longer the 1960’s and while some of the best content is published in textbooks there are an endless variety of resources available online. Youtube is a great example. Watching one particular video could explain a concept to you in a way that means you’ll remember it forever.

If you’re just studying from one book then you will never know if there is a better explanation available. Of course if there is an assigned text book for the exam then you should focus on that.

Also be wary of wasting time online as it is easily done. Stay focused on the task at hand.

Talk To Other People  Studying For The Exam

As well as getting help from teachers and experts, classmates can be a great benefit too. If you’re struggling to comprehend something then hearing it from someone who is ‘on your level’ can work.

Often we have a better understanding of one particular area compared to the rest. If you need extra work on something you should get in contact with other people in your class. If you can explain something to them  that they struggle with in an easily understandable way then they will be more than happy to return the favour.

A great way to see if you have fully grasped a concept is to try and explain it to someone else in a coherent manner. If you can do this then that is a good sign from which you can build on.

You don’t have to join ‘study groups’ if you don’t want to, I rarely do as I prefer to work alone. But, talking to somebody else who can possibly lend you a hand is always a good idea and you could learn something valuable.

Test Yourself

Once you have sufficiently gathered your knowledge you should begin testing yourself as the exam closes in. This helps to tie up loose ends and to see if any area  needs more work than previously thought.

Practicing exam style questions under exam conditions is the best way to study as its the closest method to the real thing.

Practice questions under timed conditions to see if you should slow down or you need to speed up. Track your progress and this should give you a confidence boost to achieve your goals.

Prepare The Right Way

You want to do more than just what is required.

What I mean by this is that if you think that if you study every night for 3 weeks and you “should pass” then you are leaving too much up to chance.

Are you really going to risk failing?  Any number of things could happen on the day of your exam. You want to do more than enough so that you can afford to fall back a bit if something doesn’t go according to plan.

Put In The Work

No one else is to blame if you fail or don’t achieve the mark you wanted.

As I said in the beginning find out how much work is required for you to achieve your goal and just do it. There is no way around it. You want to be leaving that exam knowing that you did everything you could.

We all can boost our productivity during our day day to be more successful. To do this we need to make steady, small accomplishments each and every day. These achievements add up in the long run and that is how real progress is made.

If you’re serious about getting the most out of your day you need a plan of action. I don’t mean that you need to regulate each and every minute of your life. But, a schedule that you can stick to from when you wake up to when you go back to sleep is a must if you want to be more productive.

Write your to be completed list on paper. Don’t just think of what you need to do. You need to get it down in physical form, this way you will be held accountable for it. There is also no chance that you will forget about it as you sleep.

Plan more work than you think you can do. By doing this you will subconsciously work more efficiently throughout the day. The result will be that you will end up actually getting more done than you would have.

2 Do The Most Difficult Tasks First

Generally people are the most productive in the morning. One of the reasons for this is because as the day progresses, more people become free and will contact you. By doing your most difficult tasks first you will avoid distractions at the most critical time in your day. Of course if you are have a job in the morning then you should get started on your most difficult task for the day asap after.

3 No Social Media If You’re Serious About Productivity

Social Media is a killer. Our minds were not designed to deal with so much fast paced information. This has led our social media age to have shockingly low attention spans. After going on Facebook my mind is still going at 100 miles per hour.  This is something you want to avoid at all costs if you’re serious about being productive. Turn off your wifi, sign out of all your profiles, whatever you need to do, just do it.

4 Warm Up Your Mind

Before doing strenuous work you should ensure that your mind is focused on the task at hand. This will require you to clear your head and and “Get in the zone”. I recommend reading a book or meditating for at least 10 minutes before to make you forget about any annoyances that were previously distracting you.

5 Don’t Get Distracted

Our mind will sometimes do anything to divert our attention to something else. Ever find that when you’re trying to concentrate that suddenly the cracks on your desk becoming infatuating? These kind of distractions may seem innocent but they can be damage your productivity as they add up throughout the day. Getting distracted destroys the momentum you had going and makes it even harder to get started again.

To minimise distractions you need to make your work area as clean as possible  to create a productive environment. This is down to personal preference though. When you catch your mind wandering concentrate on a random key on your keyboard and don’t look anywhere else. Eventually you will realise that getting on with your work is more interesting.

6 Use White Noise

Or brown noise or any other study aid  sound that you agree with. Just try out some on youtube and see which one works best for you. This will help you concentrate if you’re in a noisy area like a not-so quiet library or two people just won’t shut up beside you . White noise and other such sounds work by blending in and masking other external noises around you so that you don’t notice them as much.

Of course it’s not just about big muscles but having an imposing physique means that you’re less likely to be jumped up on from behind. Looking solid and strong can save you plenty of bother before it can even begin. 9 times out of 10 the stronger person will win a fight that’s why lifting is so important. Along with starting a martial art, getting strong as hell is a must. Being a giant body builder that can’t move isn’t going to help much after a minute when you have gassed.

St Patrick’s Day For Many Is An Excuse To Be An Idiot

St Patrick’s Day is a massive occasion for drinkers worldwide. What better way to celebrate the sacred holiday for many than by getting completely wasted. By wasted I mean having no inhibitions and losing your possessions or getting in a fist fight for no reason.

All over the western world people will be getting smashed today. I encourage everyone to have fun but stay aware of your surroundings and don’t take it too far. Alcohol when done right is great don’t get me wrong, but when you use it to the detriment of the rest of your life that is where the problems lie.

Know Your Limits

There is a fine line between having fun and doing something stupid you regret. Knowing your limits comes with strong self knowledge and control that you need to  gain as a person.  Not remembering anything that happened the next day means that it may as well not have happened. Spending a weeks wages in one day is terrible for your mindset and personal finances . Alcohol is expensive, period. It’s even more expensive when you go to a bar and think you’re a ‘baller’. Word of advice for everyone; keep your credit card in your pocket or don’t bring it out with you at all.

I Have Been One Of These Idiots

I’m talking from experience here. I kept making the same mistakes and following the crowd. Eventually. I came to the realisation that it was terrible for every aspect of my life including my health and my relationships (drunk texts).

I’m much happier having a few drinks but always being in control of my mind and body. Not to mention the hangover from hell is gone. Hangovers kill your productivity by setting you back days in you personal growth. Add all your wasted days from hangovers and think about where you could be if you had of been moving towards your goals instead.

Please Don’t Drink and Drive

Drink driving is a heinous act that causes the needless deaths of thousands each year. Drink as much as you want but please don’t put any innocent lives at risk because of your idiocy.
